The Knights of Columbus (K of C) is an international service organization of Catholic men.  This website is for the K of C council located in the heart of Vienna, Virginia, with brother Knights proudly hailing from the parishes of Our Lady of Good Counsel and St. Mark as well as a few others.  To join us, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Grand Knight via email to grandknight4654@knightsvienna.org. 

The K of C was founded in 1882 by a 29-year-old parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney (pictured),in the basement of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut.  In that time, accidental deaths were frequent, leaving families distressed both emotionally and fiscally.  What began as a service organization, quickly became a community life insurance organization, which has now blossomed into one of the largest fraternal service organizations as well as providers of life insurance in the world.  To learn more, please go to http://www.kofc.org.   

What do we do? 

Most fraternal service organizations have a cause (the Lions Clubs cater to eye sight, Shriners cater to childrens' hospitals, and so on).  At the K of C in Virginia, we cater to assisting the intellectually disabled.  So, while we do many activities like provide meals for the homeless at Christ House in Alexandria, or raise money for vocations in Arlington Diocese, our biggest cause is raising funds for the intellectually disabled assistance organization known as KOVAR.  KOVAR is a Virginia Knights of Columbus Charity established in 1971 to provide financial assistance through grants and home loans to tax exempt organizations providing training and assistance to citizens with intellectual disabilities.
